1. Stay Active
When the temperature drops it drains the motivation from even the most motivated worker outer (that should totally be a word). Avoid the temptation to stay home by the fire by staying active. There are plenty of workouts that can be done from the comfort of our own home with little to no equipment. Are you a mom? Get the kids involved and make it a game. On a busy schedule? Start slow and shoot for at least 3 sessions a week. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed!
2. Prepare Your Meals
Not only are the holidays full of sweets and treats everywhere we go, it's always the time where socialize the most. Stay on track nutritionally by planning your meals. At the very least prepare your breakfasts and lunches for the week so that it isn't tempting to eat a holiday pastry before lunch. This will allow you to have so much more balance over the holidays. If you pack a majority of your foods it allows you more leeway to have some wine, pizza, fruitcake ( hey, someone has to like it, right?) or whatever you like during the holidays.
3. Be A Snack Hoarder
Keeping protein bars ( I recommend Quest Bars to my readers without food allergies or Purefit for my personal fav- it's gluten and dairy free. Other snacks I always keep on hand is a scoop of Sunwarror Protein in a zip lock bag to mix in my blender bottle, for all of my non-allergy folks, I recommend Cellucor or Royal Sports Ltd (use CARROTTOP to get 20% off at Cellucor.com or royalsportsltd.com), almonds, and other filling snacks.
4. Prioritize Protein
It's easy to go overboard during holiday meals but if you prioritize protein you'll feel fuller faster and will be less likely to fill up on carbs. Just keep an eye on portion size for those yummy mash potatoes and sweet potato soufflé.
5. Hydrate
Whether your having a few adult beverages or just some extra turkey, make sure to drink your water. Holiday food usually has a good amount of salt which can leave you feeling bloated. Drinking water will help combat this and help flush your system so drink up.
6. Enjoy Time With Family.
At the end of the day, the holidays are about spending time with your family. Make sure to the make the most of it and enjoy everything, including the food. No one ever measures quality time by the number on the scale. Be happy, be healthy.
