Butterfly Abs

So I have to admit that I cannot believe I am actually writing this blog post. I have been so skeptical of any ab products on the market because as you know, abs are revealed through hard work in the gym and nutrition that is on point. End of story. Right? Not so fast. I have really struggled with abs since I began in the fitness industry. I hate even using the term abs because we all have abs so let’s talk about shredded, visible abs. I have never had them. Never even seen a two pack. I am not genetically gifted in the ab department and my bodyfat stays between 15-19% typically in the off season so while I maintain a flat stomach, my baby abs never poke through. To add to that, after having a baby, I suffered from the dreaded lower abdominal pooch. Ok, so let’s not blame it on having a baby. What it really is, is extra body fat that I just haven’t gotten off and I tend to store more there as well as in my legs (but that is another post for another day). I started a photoshoot prep back in April to get my butt back in gear and to get lean for the summer. I started to see more and more of what I call baby abbies peeking through as my training and nutrition tightened up. My core is something that is always lagging and I kept seeing videos of the Flex Tone Butterfly ab product. Now again, in my skeptical mind I just rolled my eyes and kept crunching. But then I noticed that I had friends and fellow athletes using this, people that I knew wouldn’t just promote a product they didn’t believe in because we have talked about supplements and gear in length. Finally, I decided to give it a try and give Flex Tones my brutally honest review. Going into this I expected to give this a 5 at most. As you can see, this little gem completely surprised me.

How it Works
Butterfly Abs is a wireless EMS and TENS device that stimulates your muscles. This unit has 6 programs and up to 10 intensity levels.

Cost: 10/10
Flex Tone nailed the price point of this. At only $39.99, it is super affordable so I feel confident recommending it to clients as most competitor models are outrageous.

Durability: 9/10
I have used this thing 4-5 times a week on three sections of my abs and my pads are still in decent shape. My battery did die pretty quickly which is why I gave it a 9 but that is to be expected with a wireless device and I am ultimately using it three times a day since I am using it on three spots. Plus I am sure the fact that my hubby was stealing it to use made a difference on battery life.  However, they give you a second battery in the box-major score!

Effectiveness: 9/10
Let me start off by saying that if you don’t workout, have a poor diet, and but this on thinking you are going to get the abs of your dreams, you are wrong. This isn’t a gimmick, quick fix product. It is meant to supplement a nutrition and training program that is already tightened up. For me, my nutrition and training were on point but I was having difficulty finding time to hit abs as much as possible and I still have a slight diastasis from having my son so doing lower ab work has been difficult and sometimes painful so for me, this was a great way to hit lower abs while focusing on keeping my TVA tight without adding weighted exercises to lower abdominals. When I do too much lower abs, I get a swoop from the added muscle even though I am trying to build out my abs.
I was a baby at first and set my intensity pretty low because I thought it would be painful. After my husband swore it didn’t hurt, I cranked it up and the intensity is unbelievable. It doesn’t hurt at all but you get really strong muscle contractions with such a small unit. I was even sore after using it! I contacted the support team because initially I felt like one side was more intense than the other but once I cranked up the intensity, it evened out.

I wore it under my clothes around the house and even out in public. I only used it for 15 minutes on each section but used it on three sections of my abs. I have been using it now for about a month and have seen a notable difference in my abs, especially my lower abs. My husband began to steal my unit and use it as well and he even swears by it. Our favorite program is number 6- the crunch. It gives me the strongest muscle contractions. I give the effectiveness of this unit a 9/10instead of a 10/10 only because this shouldn’t be your only form of ab work. This product has been a total game changer for me and has turned me in to a believer. They have a booty stimulator as well and a 6 pack abs unit and I want them both. That is how much I love this product.

Customer Service: 10/10
This is huge for me. I had a lot of questions as I wanted to make sure I was using it correctly and I also didn’t want to use it too much. Their customer service got back to me faster than any I have ever experienced. If you have been following my latest search for an accurate fitness tracker, you know that I despise Polar Global and Polar USA’s customer service but I digress. The Flex Tone team has local Atlanta support which I think is absolutely amazing.

Total Score: 9.5
I highly recommend this product as a supplement to what you are already doing. At the price point, it is a no-brainer. You can purchase it at https://stimrx.com/butterflyabs/I am not a paid spokesperson and I not sponsored by them in any way. I just a fitness techie nerd who likes testing out product and letting you guys know if they truly work! I hope you like it as much as my husband and I do!

Product Review: Cellucor Alpha Amino, Best Hydrating Amino Acid Supplement Yet

I recently tested out Cellucor's new Alpha Amino product. It is a hydrating sports drink with 14 amino acids. I am a huge fan of their BCAA's but this product is now my absolute favorite supplement and here is why: 1. Taste Many amino supplements on the market frankly taste like crap. I had alpha amino in both watermelon and lemon lime and they were both delicious. I typically cannot stand anything that is lemon line especially in a supplement line because it never truly tastes like lemon lime but Cellucor nailed it. Not too sweet not and just enough flavor.  2. Zero Sugar Now I love love love me some coconut water but when trying to make lean gains, I can't afford the extra carbs and sugar. Alpha Amino has 0 calories and 0 sugar and contains (wait for it, wait for it) COCONUT WATER! Hello hydration. Whether you are at the gym, running or even yoga, this is a perfect hydration and recovery supplement. Which brings me to #3 3. Perfect for the gym or running I can't belie...

Competing And Breastfeeding: My Postpartum Competition Journey

A (6 months post-partum on the SNBF Pro Stage) Warning: You are about to read my experience with breastfeeding and competition prep. I am going to be brutally honest because I feel like A) someone needs to do it and B) so many women have reached out to me about losing weight after a baby. So here it goes. You have been warned- there will be lots of post partum details. The Journey Before having a baby, the plan was to compete in my first pro show as motivation to drop the baby weight. I gained 36 lbs. total with 10 lbs. of it happening in the last 3 weeks due to fluid retention and the version I had at 38 weeks. Although I was back down to pre-pregnancy weight about three weeks after I had my son, I didn't look like my former pre-preggo self. I was mushy and soft and wanted to tighten things up. My love of lifting got me back in the gym as soon as I was cleared but only doing bodyweight work for quite a while before I was brave enough to add weight. When y...
