Supplements For A Better Bikini Body

Supplements are just that, a supplement to your daily nutrition. If you eat healthy and still need to add some protein or are looking for some great metabolism boosters, then you may benefit greatly from supplements. I get asked what supplements I take all the time, so here is a run down of the supplements I use and where to find them.

1. Protein

Vegan Protein
I am allergic to wheat and dairy and don't eat meat so I rely on shakes to achieve my daily protein needs. I am not a vegan ( I eat eggs and some seafood) but since I can't have dairy, I use vegan protein. My two favorites right now are Sunwarrior CLASSIC Blend (not the warrior blend, the warrior blend tastes like poo) and Rawfusion. I buy both of these at bodybuilding.com.

Sunwarrior (bodybuilding.com)
Rawfusion (bodybuilding.com) I use peanut butter fudge. This is my favorite.

Whey Protein
If dairy isn't an issue or you just want a regular whey protein, I highly recommend Giant Sports Delicious Protein found at GNC or Cellucor's Cinnamon Swirl Protein.

Giant Sports (GNC.com) or local store. My husband and I use the one at 2295 Townelake Parkway Woodstock GA 30189 and the outlet store at the new Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta: 915 Ridgewalk Parkway, Woodstock GA 30188. I love these guys at the outlet store because they really know Sports Nutrition. Some of them are even fellow competitors. If you are one of my local followers, head over to one of these stores and show them some love.

Cellucor (GNC)

Protein Treats
When I am in the mood for something a little more filling, I make a protein mugcake. I am obsessed with them! Recently, my friend and fellow competitor Alex ( you will probably be hearing about her a lot because we share tips), told me that she adds her psyllium husk to her mugcake and I had to try it- Amazing. It made the cake so much fluffier and filling, not to mention it has ended both of our bloating and stomach problems. Hello flat tummy!!!! Note: The GNC Psyllium Husk Powder is the only one that I have tried that works this well in the recipe.

Psyllium Husk (GNC)

Flat Tummy Protein Mugcake
1 scoop protein powder
1 1/2 tsp GNC Psyllium Husk Powder ( Alex uses 3 tsp of psyllium, I halved it so I could enjoy another cake later in the day as the serving size is 3 tsp a day)
1 packet of stevia
3 tablespoons liquid egg white (to equal 1 egg)
Enough water to form a "batter"

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Slowly add the water last until you reach a batter like consistency. If you use a vegan protein it will be fairly thick and that is ok. Spray a coffee mug with a non-stick spray and put the batter into the mug. Microwave for a minute and a half and viola. A yummy "cake" without the sugar and carbs. You will thank me for this I promise.

2. Preworkout

Most days I can get it done without a preworkout but other days I can't. When I can't, I use a preworkout. Here are my favs:

Cellucor N0 (GNC)

Love love love this product because it has no creatine and that is good news for someone like me who holds tons of water weight. Yay! Thanks Cellucor. I highly suggest this one for women so you don't bloat with the creatine but everyone is different. If you don't notice any water retention with creatine use, then I would reccommnend their C4 as well!

EVP (Bodybuilding.com)

This is a non-caffineated preworkout and I loved it, except when I needed energy. The added glutamine aided in my quick recovery.

Green Tea Extract (GNC)

Yep, I said it. This was one of my go to cardio pre-workouts. I noticed a huge difference in the calories that I burned (using my Polar FT4 heart monitor) when I took this prior to my cardio sessions. I took 1 before cardio and one in the afternoon.

3. Post Workout

Cellucor BCAAs (GNC)

This can be use pre, intra, or post workout but I use it post to help my muscles recover as I am typically heading to do some cardio or jiu jitsu after most of my workouts.

Glutamine (GNC)

I could not live without my glutamine. I take 1 serving immediately after workouts and again just before bed. I use GNC's 5,000 mg Glutamine Powder. You can't beat the price and it mixes so well.

4. Daily Supplements

GNC Women's Ultra Mega Active (GNC)

CLA (GNC)
2 with breakfast and 2 with dinner ( I took more during comp)

DIgestive Enzyme 2 with breakfast, lunch, and dinner ( I use a dairy free version from wholefoods but used a different one during comp)

Spirulina (GNC)
3 tablets on an empty stomach in between meals 1 and meal 4.

Psyllium Husk (mentioned early)

Now that you know what I use, you can try a few of them from the list. Supplements can definitely break the bank so start with a few and work from there. If I had to pick a few that I couldn't live without it would be my protein, glutamine, BCAA, CLA, and preworkout. If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or email me at carrottopbikinibottom@gmail.com. Happy Supplementing!!!!!!

Product Review: Cellucor Alpha Amino, Best Hydrating Amino Acid Supplement Yet

I recently tested out Cellucor's new Alpha Amino product. It is a hydrating sports drink with 14 amino acids. I am a huge fan of their BCAA's but this product is now my absolute favorite supplement and here is why: 1. Taste Many amino supplements on the market frankly taste like crap. I had alpha amino in both watermelon and lemon lime and they were both delicious. I typically cannot stand anything that is lemon line especially in a supplement line because it never truly tastes like lemon lime but Cellucor nailed it. Not too sweet not and just enough flavor.  2. Zero Sugar Now I love love love me some coconut water but when trying to make lean gains, I can't afford the extra carbs and sugar. Alpha Amino has 0 calories and 0 sugar and contains (wait for it, wait for it) COCONUT WATER! Hello hydration. Whether you are at the gym, running or even yoga, this is a perfect hydration and recovery supplement. Which brings me to #3 3. Perfect for the gym or running I can't belie...

Competing And Breastfeeding: My Postpartum Competition Journey

A (6 months post-partum on the SNBF Pro Stage) Warning: You are about to read my experience with breastfeeding and competition prep. I am going to be brutally honest because I feel like A) someone needs to do it and B) so many women have reached out to me about losing weight after a baby. So here it goes. You have been warned- there will be lots of post partum details. The Journey Before having a baby, the plan was to compete in my first pro show as motivation to drop the baby weight. I gained 36 lbs. total with 10 lbs. of it happening in the last 3 weeks due to fluid retention and the version I had at 38 weeks. Although I was back down to pre-pregnancy weight about three weeks after I had my son, I didn't look like my former pre-preggo self. I was mushy and soft and wanted to tighten things up. My love of lifting got me back in the gym as soon as I was cleared but only doing bodyweight work for quite a while before I was brave enough to add weight. When y...

Butterfly Abs

So I have to admit that I cannot believe I am actually writing this blog post. I have been so skeptical of any ab products on the market because as you know, abs are revealed through hard work in the gym and nutrition that is on point. End of story. Right? Not so fast. I have really struggled with abs since I began in the fitness industry. I hate even using the term abs because we all have abs so let’s talk about shredded, visible abs. I have never had them. Never even seen a two pack. I am not genetically gifted in the ab department and my bodyfat stays between 15-19% typically in the off season so while I maintain a flat stomach, my baby abs never poke through. To add to that, after having a baby, I suffered from the dreaded lower abdominal pooch. Ok, so let’s not blame it on having a baby. What it really is, is extra body fat that I just haven’t gotten off and I tend to store more there as well as in my legs (but that is another post for another day). I started a phot...
