New Year's Resolutions

Out With The Old, In With The New

2013 has come and gone leaving us all pondering our New Year's Resolutions. Instead of resolving to do or not to do something, I decided to make a list of all of the goals  I am setting for 2014. 2013 was an amazing year for me. The hubster and I took our annual surf trip to Costa Rica and I survived this year without being stung my a sting ray, I worked on some amazing projects at work, took a  new position at a different agency and I have never been happier. To top it off, I got in the best shape of my life, won my first fitness bikini compeition and gained an exceptionally supportive new family of fit friends. It has truly been a wonderful year and I feel incredibly blessed but I know 2014 has many more things in store for us. My primary focus is to find the positive in everything!! And without further adieu, here are my goals for 2014:

1. Health

The end of 2013 has brought the flu and a sinus infection back to back prompting me to think about the way I listen (or don't listen) to my body. I tend to push through and not take enough time to rest when I start to feel run down. Not in 2014. I will make sure to allow some down time to do rest and recover.

2. Career

My main goal in 2014 is my career. My job is so amazing because I am exposed to so many fascinating topics and I really want to use my background to gain more expertise and training. I love love love my field and really want to soak up all I can while I am young enough to retain it.

3. Fitness

My goal is not to lose weight but to get stronger than I was before and continue to have fun with fitness and healthy food. I want to enjoy my time spent at the gym and jiu jitsu. After all, what is the point if it isn't fun? I want to run more and register for more 10ks and half marathons. Above all, I will only compete with myself to become better than the day before!

4. Balance

In 2014 my goal is to continue to be balanced in fitness, family and fun. This means spending more time with family, being flexible with my gym schedule, and finding a balance with food. It is okay to cheat every now and then and my goal is not to feel guilty if I have a cheat meal. After my competition, I would feel guilty about eating a banana. I haven't worked my way up to chips and salsa, but my goal is to be able to enjoy a flexible diet and understand that one cheat meal or a glass of wine won't kill me.

5.Put the scale away

I have already posted about this but I will not be a slave to my scale. Now that I will be working with my coach again, I am sure I will have to send in my weight but I will only do so when she requests and will put it away! I will only focus on getting stronger!

6. Date Night WITHOUT IPhones

Technology is wonderful. It allows us to find anything with a little help from Siri. As much as I may want to post what a great time I am having with my hubby or friends, my goal is to put the iphone down too. I love social media, especially now that I am blogging and sharing my story, but it would be nice to go back to before cell phones when we all had dinners without texts going off or checking email. With two phones to carry around (one personal and one for work) I am as guilty as anybody. Not anymore. I will be putting it away to spend dinners and dates with my hubby!

7. Girl Time

My best friend moved a few hours away and is about to get married which makes it even more important to spend some quality bestie time with her. Our schedules are always a mess but my goal in 2014 is to spend as much time with her and my other friends as I possibly can! This goes back to having balance!

8. Travel More

I love, love, love to travel and in 2014 my goal is to plan more trips both internationally and domestically! Travel is good for the soul.

9. Be A Tourist

There have been so many times I have wanted to go to a museum here in Atlanta but never went. In 2014 my goal is to visit my own city to see the sights and just be a tourist!

10. Save $$$

And finally, 2014 will be my year of saving. I have already taken a few steps at the end of 2013 to start saving and will continue to find more ways to save in 2014! This will be tough for me especially will my grocery bill but I am determined!

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful New Year. What are your goals for 2014? Are they fitness, career, or a mix like mine? Whatever they are, set them realistically and individually! Make 2014 your year!

Product Review: Cellucor Alpha Amino, Best Hydrating Amino Acid Supplement Yet

I recently tested out Cellucor's new Alpha Amino product. It is a hydrating sports drink with 14 amino acids. I am a huge fan of their BCAA's but this product is now my absolute favorite supplement and here is why: 1. Taste Many amino supplements on the market frankly taste like crap. I had alpha amino in both watermelon and lemon lime and they were both delicious. I typically cannot stand anything that is lemon line especially in a supplement line because it never truly tastes like lemon lime but Cellucor nailed it. Not too sweet not and just enough flavor.  2. Zero Sugar Now I love love love me some coconut water but when trying to make lean gains, I can't afford the extra carbs and sugar. Alpha Amino has 0 calories and 0 sugar and contains (wait for it, wait for it) COCONUT WATER! Hello hydration. Whether you are at the gym, running or even yoga, this is a perfect hydration and recovery supplement. Which brings me to #3 3. Perfect for the gym or running I can't belie...

Competing And Breastfeeding: My Postpartum Competition Journey

A (6 months post-partum on the SNBF Pro Stage) Warning: You are about to read my experience with breastfeeding and competition prep. I am going to be brutally honest because I feel like A) someone needs to do it and B) so many women have reached out to me about losing weight after a baby. So here it goes. You have been warned- there will be lots of post partum details. The Journey Before having a baby, the plan was to compete in my first pro show as motivation to drop the baby weight. I gained 36 lbs. total with 10 lbs. of it happening in the last 3 weeks due to fluid retention and the version I had at 38 weeks. Although I was back down to pre-pregnancy weight about three weeks after I had my son, I didn't look like my former pre-preggo self. I was mushy and soft and wanted to tighten things up. My love of lifting got me back in the gym as soon as I was cleared but only doing bodyweight work for quite a while before I was brave enough to add weight. When y...

Butterfly Abs

So I have to admit that I cannot believe I am actually writing this blog post. I have been so skeptical of any ab products on the market because as you know, abs are revealed through hard work in the gym and nutrition that is on point. End of story. Right? Not so fast. I have really struggled with abs since I began in the fitness industry. I hate even using the term abs because we all have abs so let’s talk about shredded, visible abs. I have never had them. Never even seen a two pack. I am not genetically gifted in the ab department and my bodyfat stays between 15-19% typically in the off season so while I maintain a flat stomach, my baby abs never poke through. To add to that, after having a baby, I suffered from the dreaded lower abdominal pooch. Ok, so let’s not blame it on having a baby. What it really is, is extra body fat that I just haven’t gotten off and I tend to store more there as well as in my legs (but that is another post for another day). I started a phot...
