Overnight Chia Seed "Oatmeal"

I used to love my oatmeal in the mornings but after trying desperately to work food pairing into my nutrition, I realized my oats may not be digesting as well as possible with my morning egg routine. So I decided to try something different. I began to see a lot of chia seed recipes online in my quest for a substitute to my oats. I began making variations of some chia seed "puddings" that I saw and came up with this gem. I use it for breakfast but it can easily be used as a snack.

Ingredients:

1 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
2 Tbsp Chia Seeds
A few drops of NuNatural Vanilla Stevia Drops
1/4 cup blueberries
2 small strawberries
Shredded Unsweetened Coconut (optional)

Instructions:

Mix almond mix and 2 tbsp chia seeds in a mason jar ( I prep 5 of them as breakfast for the week). Leave the jar with the lid on out on the counter. Shake every 5-10 minutes for about 25 minutes to avoid clumping. After the 25 minutes add the blueberries and sliced strawberries into the jar and place the jar into the fridge over night. In the morning add the shredded unsweetened coconut if you want to add and enjoy!

Butterfly Abs

So I have to admit that I cannot believe I am actually writing this blog post. I have been so skeptical of any ab products on the market because as you know, abs are revealed through hard work in the gym and nutrition that is on point. End of story. Right? Not so fast. I have really struggled with abs since I began in the fitness industry. I hate even using the term abs because we all have abs so let’s talk about shredded, visible abs. I have never had them. Never even seen a two pack. I am not genetically gifted in the ab department and my bodyfat stays between 15-19% typically in the off season so while I maintain a flat stomach, my baby abs never poke through. To add to that, after having a baby, I suffered from the dreaded lower abdominal pooch. Ok, so let’s not blame it on having a baby. What it really is, is extra body fat that I just haven’t gotten off and I tend to store more there as well as in my legs (but that is another post for another day). I started a phot...

Product Review: Cellucor Alpha Amino, Best Hydrating Amino Acid Supplement Yet

I recently tested out Cellucor's new Alpha Amino product. It is a hydrating sports drink with 14 amino acids. I am a huge fan of their BCAA's but this product is now my absolute favorite supplement and here is why: 1. Taste Many amino supplements on the market frankly taste like crap. I had alpha amino in both watermelon and lemon lime and they were both delicious. I typically cannot stand anything that is lemon line especially in a supplement line because it never truly tastes like lemon lime but Cellucor nailed it. Not too sweet not and just enough flavor.  2. Zero Sugar Now I love love love me some coconut water but when trying to make lean gains, I can't afford the extra carbs and sugar. Alpha Amino has 0 calories and 0 sugar and contains (wait for it, wait for it) COCONUT WATER! Hello hydration. Whether you are at the gym, running or even yoga, this is a perfect hydration and recovery supplement. Which brings me to #3 3. Perfect for the gym or running I can't belie...

THE BRUTALLY HONEST TRUTH ABOUT COMPETING

I get asked to describe how competition training differs from a general fitness and nutrition plan. Some clients come to me after seeing their friends or family members take the stage and they decide for some reason or another that they too want to compete. Now, let me go ahead and tell you that I am a competition coach and competitor myself so I am by no means attempting to thwart anyone’s goal or dream of stepping on stage, however I think that a detailed, brutally honest check list has been needed for some time.  So many clients start competition prep only to quit in the middle, falling short of their goal. It is my job as a coach to education on the reality of competing and the fact that it isn’t for everyone.  Finding time to train is hard enough with our busy schedules but training for a competition requires even more time and effort than that.  So  if you are considering taking the plunge into the competition world, please take some ...
