Guest Author: Bikini Competitor Alex Petrakieva on Competing and Finding What Works For You!

Lets be honest, competition prep is tedious work. It takes a substantial amount of time and energy each time you commit yourself to stepping on that big stage in a tiny bikini. And while it can be extremely rewarding it comes with weekly meal planning, twice a day gym visits, and ridiculous amounts of water intake, so certainly be prepared to take on a crazy schedule. As the weeks roll out, you will also find yourself stressing uncontrollably when something doesn't go your way. The constant stress will certainly affect your digestive system in ways you would not imagine. I always struggled with this because I am simply a Type-A perfectionist. Not a good combination. As a result, I pay special attention to my body. I cannot eliminate the circumstances in my life, but there are certainly ways that I can reduce how stress affects me throughout my prep. With two competitions under my belt, I have decided to change things up for my next one. Here are some strategies I have...

Prepping for a Photo Shoot or Special Event

(Left: vacation prep Right: On vacation eating added carbs and an occasional margarita or two..) Even when I go on vacation, I definitely change up my diet 3-4 prior to being in a bikini for a week and what you eat or drink on the beach can affect the way you look in those pics you upload to Instagram. Some of you have asked me what I do differently. Below are some suggestions. Remember, everyone has different ways to achieve goals and you will read a ton of opinions. It is all trial and ...

Overnight Chia Seed "Oatmeal"

I used to love my oatmeal in the mornings but after trying desperately to work food pairing into my nutrition, I realized my oats may not be digesting as well as possible with my morning egg routine. So I decided to try something different. I began to see a lot of chia seed recipes online in my quest for a substitute to my oats. I began making variations of some chia seed "puddings" that I saw and came up with this gem. I use it for breakfast but it can easily be used as a snack. Ingredients: 1 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk 2 Tbsp Chia Seeds A few drops of NuNatural Vanilla Stevia Drops 1/4 cup blueberries 2 small strawberries Shredded Unsweetened Coconut (optional) Instructions: Mix almond mix and 2 tbsp chia seeds in a mason jar ( I prep 5 of them as breakfast for the week). Leave the jar with the lid on out on the counter. Shake every 5-10 minutes for about 25 minutes to avoid clumping. After the 25 minutes add the blueberries and sliced strawberries int...
